There wasn’t a road-legal M3 GTR. The M3 GTR road and race cars are shown here, together, which totally proves the road car is real. In a move to make the car unimpeachably legal–and to shut Porsche up–BMW offered to sell 10 road cars. They had the dry-sumped P60B40 rated at 380 horsepower and manual gearboxes.

For the 2001 season, the race-capable BMW M3, officially called the BMW M3 GTR, was ready to roll. The team’s trump card was the 4.0-litre V8 high-performance engine with 330 kW (460 hp). Table of Contents show

For the homologation road car, see BMW M3 GTR (E46) For the road car, see BMW M3 (E46) The 2001 BMW M3 GTR GT (E46) is a race car developed by BMW based on their M3 E46. It competed during the 2001 racing season under both the BMW Motorsport and Team Schnitzer teams, with the car being entered in the GT class of The American Le Mans Championship and the European Le Mans Series.[1][2][3] It was originally fitted with a inline-six engine based on the engine of the standard E46 M3. The car first entered the GT class of the American Le Mans Series in 2000, in which it only took a single victory and was beaten on several occasions by the Porsche 911 GT3-R. A newly developed P60B40 V8 engine was quickly placed into the race car before the beginning of the racing 2001 season. It was developed alongside the BMW V10 engine that was used to power Williams Formula 1 cars during the 2001 F1 season. The old engine was ditched as BMW's engineers couldn't squeeze any more horsepower out of it. The new engine gave the BMW M3 GTR a competitive edge over the Porsche 911 GT3-R and allowed the M3 GTR to win seven out of the ten events in the GT category in the 2001 season. Porsche claimed during the 2001 ALMS season that BMW had violated the ALMS entry rules and the spirit of Gran Turismo. This was based on the fact that the V8 engine in the M3 GTR was not available in any road legal BMW M3. BMW produced 10 road going GTR models for sale after the 2001 ALMS season ended as the rules required that the entered cars must be placed on sale on two continents within twelve months of the season beginning. The ALMS rules were changed for the GT class heading into the 2002 season, and required that at least 100 units as well as 1,000 engines be built for a car to qualify. The revised rules forced BMW to pull the M3 GTR from the following American Le Mans Series season. However, it made its return to motorsport when the BMW-backed Schnitzer Motorsport team entered two M3 GTRs for the 2003 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race. The M3 GTR participated in the race for the following two years and scored a 1-2 victory for the team in 2004 and 2005. Its appearance is foreshadowed during the cutscene at the end of the mission "Follow The Law", a dark blue M3 GTR can be seen on the back of a flatbed truck in the Task Force's chop shop. As the player and Ana sneak around the chop shop, two officers can be overheard recounting how they acquired it; "You should've seen his face last night when I loaded it on the truck, thought he was gonna cry", to which another replies, "Ah, Frank would've loved that". It is later driven by Frank Mercer during the mission "Breaking The Law", in which he attempts to flee from the Palm City Police Department discovering his Task Force's shipment of cars. As the player and Ana's chase down Mercer, Lucas remarks that the PCPD will never be able to catch him and police chatter acknowledges that they've lost him whilst apprehending members of his Task Force. The in-game model features a set of 20-spoke rims although the box-art model features a set of 5 spokes at the hub which split into 10 towards the wheel hoop. The M3 GTR is often erroneously associated to be Razor's car; even though it is the player's car. In Need for Speed: Most Wanted, the player can keep the M3 GTR at heat level 6 as long as they do not modify any of its visual attributes and use other cars for race events. In Need for Speed: Most Wanted, its livery has a Platinum Silver body with Le Mans Blue stripes.[6] In Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Need for Speed: Carbon, the M3 GTR has reduced performance in the career mode prologue sections to provide an easier introductory driving experience. In Need for Speed: Carbon, the player races against an M3 GTR in a Gold Ranked Canyon Duel Challenge Series event. In Need for Speed: Carbon, the M3 GTR is seen in the Gold Ranked Canyon Checkpoint Challenge Series event. In Need for Speed: ProStreet, Need for Speed: Undercover, Need for Speed: World, and Need for Speed (2015), the BMW M3 (E46) can be equipped with a body kit that resembles the M3 GTR. In Need for Speed (2015), a unique "Deluxe" M3 E46 based on the M3 GTR can be unlocked with purchase of the game's Deluxe Edition. In Need for Speed: Payback, a unique "Most Wanted" M3 E46 based on the M3 GTR could be unlocked when it was available as an abandoned car. The TV show Tuner Transformation created a replica of the BMW M3 GTR based on an E46 330Ci. In Need for Speed: Heat, the M3 GTR Legends Edition is incorrectly listed as a 2006 model year despite the specification appearing in all prior games to have only competed during the 2001 American, European, and Petit Le Mans Series. In Need for Speed: Heat, the M3 GTR Legends Edition is incorrectly listed as producing 345 bhp and 365 Nm of torque. An unused vinyl for the M3 GTR in Need for Speed: Most Wanted resembles the 2004 Schnitzer Motorsport M3 GTR livery, which won the 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race that year. Development - Some content may have altered during development. The M3 GTR was the first car produced and shown for internal presentations of Criterion Games' Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012), but was not included as part of the release car line-up.[7] Gallery Need for Speed: Most WantedNeed for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0Need for Speed: Carbon(Custom)Need for Speed: World(Unreleased)Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)(Hero Livery)Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)(Urban Livery)Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)(Street Livery)Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)(Race Livery)Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)(Abstract Livery)Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)(Mobile)Need for Speed: No LimitsNeed for Speed: EdgeNeed for Speed: Edge(Promotional Image)Need for Speed: Heat(Legends Edition) References ↑ Website: (2004) Complete Archive of Chassis 001/2001Available at: ↑ Website: (2004) Complete Archive of Chassis 003/2001Available at: ↑ Website: (2004) Complete Archive of Chassis 004/2001Available at: ↑ Article: (2019) Under the Hood: Need for Speed Heat Car List. Trzeba go zbudować! By zmniejszyć masę E46, zderzaki, maskę, dach i tylny spojler wykonano z włókna węglowego. Siłę docisku aerodynamicznego zwiększono poprzez radykalną zmianę kształtu przedniego zderzaka, zintegrowanie tylnego z dyfuzorem oraz przytwierdzenie do klapy bagażnika lotki i klasycznego spojlera. Back in 2001, BMW decided to take on Porsche once and for all. The stage was the American Le Mans series; an endurance racing competition run to the same rules as the annual 24 hours event. BMW had found the E46 M3 to be outgunned by the performance of the Porsche 911 GT3-RS. The standard fit litre straight-six in the M3 lacked the power to rival the rear-engined Stuttgart racer. To address this, BMW developed a brand new 4 litre, 500hp, V8 engine. The fact they didn’t sell a V8 M3 was a mere technicality; the ALMS rules were so loosely worded it wasn’t important. Of greater significance was a race car which looked as awesome as this: Run by the Schnitzer Motorsport and PTG teams, the GTR had the metal to back up its looks. Winning its class in 7 of the 10 ALMS rounds for that year, along with the championship, the GTR was dominant in 2001. So successful that Porsche complained; they claimed the M3 was not “in the spirit” of GT racing when a road-car equivalent could not be bought. To counter, BMW offered 10 road versions for sale €250,000 after the season had ended. The street version was detuned, and lacked the visual clout of the racer along with its flame spitting side-exhausts: For the 2002 season the rules were changed. BMW would need to sell 100 cars and 1000 units of the V8 engine; an unrealistic proposition. The Munich team withdrew, allowing Porsche to return to winning their GT title without competition. Until 2010 at least, when BMW returned with that same V8 engine in the new E90 M3 GTR. As the M3 road car was now a V8, they were truly within the “spirit of’ GT racing. Consecutive BMW titles in 2010 and 2011 must make Porsche wish they had kept quiet a decade earlier. The E90 GTR may now be legitimate, but the E46 will always be more special for pushing GT racing to the limit of its rules. It also happens to be one of my favourite racing cars of recent years.
The LM models are designed to replicate each of the 5 F1 GTR’s that crossed the finish line at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. 5 McLaren F1 GTRs finished the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, achieving
For the GT race car, see BMW M3 GTR GT (E46) For the standard M3 car, see BMW M3 (E46) The 2001 BMW M3 GTR (E46) is a road-legal homologation produced by BMW to allow the V8-powered race car to compete in the 2002 American Le Mans Series season. It had a limited production run of 10 units and was engineered as a near perfect replication of the racing M3 GTR. The car shares many of the weight saving aspects from the race car which it is based on. Large amounts of carbon fibre are used on the body for parts such as the roof and the rear spoiler, which also improves the car's aerodynamics in much the same manner as the race car. The road car has nearly no forms or manifestations of comfort equipment. The 4 litre V8 engine is similar to the V8 engine used in the racing car although it has been adapted and altered to meet emission standards as well as noise regulations. It features a few extra additions over the race car such as additional bonnet cooling slits, road-sport suspension, dry sump lubrication, a two-disc sport clutch, and a variable M differential. Despite BMW's efforts to produce three prototypes and three sold road models, the ALMS' rules were changed for the 2002 season to require that at least 100 units and 1,000 engines be built for a car to qualify for the season, forcing BMW to withdraw the race car from the series. Games Need for Speed: Most Wanted The BMW M3 GTR appears in the Black Edition release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. It has a short gear ratio, giving it good acceleration to reach its top speed with ease, and also has a great handling, making it a great choice for twisty tracks. Stock The stock M3 GTR is included with the Black Edition release and is available from the beginning as a Bonus car for use in Quick Race or multiplayer. It can not be purchased in the Career mode or be selected for customisation in My Cars. Available from the beginning Need for Speed: Most Wanted (GBA) The M3 GTR appears in he Gameboy Advance release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. It is unlocked upon beating Blacklist Racer #1 - Razor. Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 The M3 GTR (Street) appears in Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 and is unlocked upon defeating Blacklist Racer #3 - Ronald "Ronnie" McCrea. It can be purchased for $250,000. The car has a powerful acceleration but an average top speed and a handling rating lower than the vehicles of other high-ranked Blacklist racers. Need for Speed: World The BMW M3 GTR was added into the car dealership on March 5, 2010 during the first closed beta as a tier 3 vehicle. Since August 22, 2012, it has been featured as a B class vehicle. It performs well within its class due to well rounded performance traits including a powerful nitrous boost and good handling. It can master high-speed as well as low-speed corners quickly thanks to sufficient traction and a high steering precision. In terms of acceleration, it can keep up with other B Class cars, although it might be lacking to A class cars with high overall ratings. Top speed is 186 mph (300 km/h). Players may find the car to be a valuable competitor for racing. Despite its underwhelming power, the M3 GTR has better handling than most in-game cash offered cars such as the Ford GT, which has somewhat stiff handling. The Lotus Evora outperforms the M3 GTR but is also less useful in police chases because of a lighter body. Stock: 584 (B class) Maximum: 720 (A class) Silver The Silver style is a performance tuned speedboost car that costs 4000. It was made available as part of the first closed beta session.
